Finch Bay Description:

The Galapagos Finch Bay Hotel is located on Santa Cruz Island at Punta Estrada, across the bay from the town of Puerto Ayora. The hotel is situated in a quiet location, with only pedestrian and bicycle circulation – there are no cars in the neighborhood and the roads are not paved.

The hotel’s look features environmentally friendly materials and use of natural light, beach front access, large pool and outdoor Jacuzzi. The charming Finch Bay Hotel – named after the famous Darwin’s Finches abundant in the surroundings – is just a few steps away from the beach on a private seaside location, surrounded by mangroves. Here you can cherish the privacy, natural surroundings and superb service offered by the Galapagos Finch Bay.

This ecologically oriented hotel also boasts innovative garbage processing and recycling programs. The entire infrastructure as well as the activities are totally oriented on a concept of true ecotourism in a pristine natural environment.

Finch Bay Accommodation:

Finch Bay Hotel accommodates 48 guests in 21 rooms; 17 rooms on the ground level and 4 on the second floor with modern design incorporating Galapagos natural elements. Each room has a private bathroom with hot water, hair dryer and soap and shampoo dispensers. They have air conditioning and are nonsmoking rooms. They are equipped with wooden blinds, a black-out curtain, tile floors and a telephone.

Finch Bay Facilities :

The Finch Bay Hotel has a bar and lounge as well as a restaurant with international cuisine. Of course vegetarian meals or any other special dietary requirements can be arranged. A laundry service is possible upon request and beach towels are also available for each client. For the ones who would like to keep in touch with family and friends you have Internet access and also a fax is for your disposal.

The hotel also offers day excursions to other islands. Four and five day packages are available and also a five day scuba diving package. You have also the option to do one of the following activities:

Sunday: Arrival – Highland

Arrival on Galápagos by plane, to the airport at Baltra Island, and then cross the Itabaca Channel, which separates Baltra from Santa Cruz Island. On the other side, a bus will take guests to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island to visit the Giant Tortoises in their natural habitat, a unique experience! A stop is made at the Twin Pit Craters, great depressions of volcanic material, formed by a long process of slow sinking of the ground, where exceptional Scalesia trees, ferns, mosses and orchids can be seen in the surroundings. Box lunch is provided. Afterwards youon to the Finch Bay Eco Hotel to enjoy its multiple attractions: pool, sea kayaks, the white coral beach in front of the hotel or rest in your hammock. In the evening, dinner includes the flavors of local and international gastronomy, one more attraction of the Finch Bay Eco Hotel.

Schedule of day during yacht excursion:

Before departure, a bountiful buffet breakfast is served, including a variety of fruit, cereals, eggs, Ecuadorian Tamales, milk, yogurt, fresh fruit juices, breads and more. For the excursions, please take solar protection, cap or hat, bathing suit, long-sleeved shirt, snorkeling gear, cameras and appropriate shoes for wet landing and hikes on lava terrain (sneakers or similar) with thick soles. Lunch is served on board.
Upon return, there will be time to relax in the hotel’s surroundings before dinner.

Monday: North Seymour

A stroll on flat terrain allows the observation of Palo Santo trees and colonies of blue-footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls and magnificent frigate birds. Towards the other side of the island, the ocean crashes against the rocks and sea lions surf in the waves.

Tuesday: Plaza Island

This small island is full of fascinating wildlife, at sea side and along the cliffs: sea lions, land iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, Opuntia cacti and vegetation that changes colors with the seasons.

Wednesday: Charles Darwin Station – Transfer to Baltra

Leave the hotel early in the morning for a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station, home to famous “Lonesome George” and many other giant tortoises. Then, overland transfer to the airport in Baltra to take the flight back to the continent.

A short trek leads through woods of Opuntia cacti and Palo Santo trees. Land iguanas (endemic to Santa Fe), lava lizards and colonies of sea lions can be observed. There is opportunity to swim and snorkel.

Friday: Plaza Island

This small island is full of fascinating wildlife, at sea side and along the cliffs: sea lions, land iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, Opuntia cacti and vegetation that changes colors with the seasons.

Saturday: Bartolome Island

The trail is a fairly steep climb on wooden steps to the summit, worth the effort, as there is a spectacular view of the Galapagos scenery from above. Interesting lava formations and tuff cones can be observed. Sea lions and penguins swim in the vicinity of Pinnacle Rock. Enjoy snorkeling or swimming from the beach.

Sunday: Charles Darwin Station – Transfer to Baltra

Stay at Santa Cruz Island and enjoy the activities of your choice. Hike to Las Grietas, snorkeling, birdwatching (without extra cost) or guided excursions at extra cost such as cruise of the bay, mountain bike in the highlands of Santa Cruz, Discover Scuba Diving.

Thursday: Santa Fe Island

Friday: Tortuga Bay

It is considered the nicest spot of the archipelago, a peaceful corner for the nature lover. Tortuga Bay’s name comes from the sea turtles that go there to lay their eggs. Excellent bird watching can be found along the way and at the Bay. Snack is included. Free time in the afternoon to relax by the pool or on the beach, enjoy the Jacuzzi or visit Puerto Ayora.
